Additional Health & Insurance Benefits

Many Eaton benefits focus on keeping you and your family physically healthy. However, Eaton is also concerned about your financial health and security. Part of achieving financial health is ensuring that you and your family are protected financially in case of unforeseen events. Therefore, the company provides a basic level of life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance at no cost to you. In addition, you can purchase additional protection through your Eaton benefits program. Benefits are insured by Securian Life Insurance Company. Information about Securian Life Insurance Company and tools for selecting the appropriate amount of insurance can be found at securian.com/eaton-insurance. In addition, Eaton also provides other benefits to help you achieve financial health and protect your income in the event that you are unable to work due to a disability. All disability benefits are administered by Sedgwick CMS.

Life Insurance

Employee Life Insurance

The company provides basic life insurance coverage in the amount of 1x your annual base pay, with a minimum coverage amount of $25,000. You have the option to purchase additional coverage above the company-provided amount, for up to a total coverage of eight times your annual base pay. You may also elect a coverage amount less than the company-provided amount and receive a taxable pay credit for the cost savings. You cannot waive participation in Employee Life Insurance.

The IRS considers a portion of your Employee Life Insurance coverage (basic and supplemental) in excess of $50,000 to be taxable income (“imputed income”). Each pay period, the value of this excess coverage is added to your wages and taxed. Please refer to the Summary Plan Description for more information.

Spouse/Domestic Partner Life Insurance and Child Life Insurance

Spouse/Domestic Partner and Child Life Insurance provide coverage in the event of your partner or child’s death. You may elect to purchase life insurance for your eligible spouse/domestic partner and/or dependent children by electing coverage under the Spouse/Domestic Partner Life Insurance plan and/or Child Life Insurance plan. Participation in this benefit is voluntary.

AD&D Insurance

Eaton provides AD&D Insurance coverage in the amount of 1x your annual base pay at no cost to you. A benefit is provided to your named beneficiary in the event of your death due to an accident. Additionally, a benefit is available to you in the event of a dismemberment claim resulting from an injury to, or loss of, a covered body part or function.

As with life insurance, you have the option to purchase additional coverage above the company-provided amount, for up to a total coverage of eight times your annual base pay. If you elect a coverage option that is less than the company-provided amount, you will receive a taxable pay credit for the cost savings.

You may elect to purchase AD&D insurance coverage for your eligible spouse/domestic partner and/or dependent children by electing coverage under the Spouse/Domestic Partner AD&D Insurance or Child AD&D Insurance plans. Participation in this benefit is voluntary.

Short Term Disability (STD)

STD benefits replace a portion of your pay in the event that you are unable to work because of a short-term illness or injury.* This coverage is provided by Eaton, at no cost to you. You do not have to enroll. Benefits generally cover 26 weeks of disability.

Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance

LTD benefits continue a portion of your monthly base pay if you are unable to work because of a long-term illness or injury. Eaton provides a basic level of benefit at no cost to you. You can also purchase additional levels of coverage to ensure a larger percentage of your pay is protected. If you are eligible for the LTD plan, LTD benefits generally begin following the expiration of the 26-week short-term disability (STD) period during which you have been absent from work for a covered illness or injury. You cannot waive participation in LTD. Note: Monthly STD and LTD benefits are reduced by any other disability benefits received, such as Social Security or Workers’ Compensation.

Voluntary Benefits

The following voluntary benefits are available to you and are insured by MetLife. If you enroll in this coverage, your premiums will be deducted from your pay.

  • Accident Insurance provides a lump-sum payment to use as you wish if you experience a covered accident.

  • Hospital Indemnity Insurance helps protect your wallet from high costs that often come with a hospital stay and may help you cover part of your out-of-pocket expenses.

  • Critical Illness Insurance provides you with a lump-sum payment if you or a family member experiences certain covered medical conditions.

  • Legal Insurance. Through the legal plan, you will have a nationwide network of thousands of attorneys to choose from if you need legal advice.

Optional Insurance

The following optional insurance coverage is also available to you through several national insurance companies. If you choose to purchase this coverage, you’ll be billed directly by the insurance carrier. To find out more and/or enroll in these benefits, go to NetBenefits and select “Enroll In Optional Insurance” from the home page. These optional insurance coverages are available throughout the year and do not require an annual enrollment period or qualifying life event to elect.

  • Auto Insurance
    Save on your auto (including recreational vehicles) insurance from three national carriers: Liberty Mutual, Farmers GroupSelectSM and Travelers.

  • Home Insurance
    Save on your home (including house, condo, apartment, mobile home or renter) insurance from three national carriers: Liberty Mutual, Farmers GroupSelectSM and Travelers.

  • Umbrella Insurance
    This coverage, offered by Liberty Mutual, Farmers GroupSelectSM and Travelers, helps protect you from costly claims and lawsuits with additional liability coverage.

  • Pet Insurance
    Pet insurance, offered by Nationwide®, covers a range of pet care services from wellness care to treatment of significant medical problems. You are free to visit any veterinarian worldwide – even specialists and emergency providers.

  • Identity Theft
    This coverage, offered by IDnotify™, can help you avoid the stressful and financially damaging experience of identity theft. It goes beyond credit monitoring and alerts you to potential threats.

Eaton does not endorse the voluntary/optional benefit programs listed above; Eaton simply makes these voluntary/optional benefit programs available to you and your eligible dependents. Any engagement with the insurance providers described above is strictly an agreement between you and the insurance provider.

Business Travel Accident

The Eaton Corporation Business Travel Accident Insurance Plan (BTA Plan) is designed to help protect eligible employees against financial disaster in the event an insured person dies or is severely injured in a covered accident while traveling on business for Eaton. The BTA Plan is automatically applied while traveling on business for Eaton, and the coverage amount is based on coverage classification. View the Summary Plan Description for more information.

Specialist Management Solutions (SMS)

Specialist Management Solutions (SMS) offers support for specialty and outpatient surgical care needs. If you need support with specialty care or are facing the possibility of surgery, SMS Advocates can provide long-term support, specialty education, and surgical counseling to help guide you through decision-making for your unique medical needs. SMS will provide additional support for orthopedic and musculoskeletal care, including access to orthopedic nurses for counseling or consultation, payment savings options, and greater access to specialty care. Employees undergoing hip replacements will be required to engage with SMS (but are not required to follow SMS recommendations). Call 844-391-1889 to speak with an SMS Advocate.
